Why Can't We Change the Election Protocol?

I've been here at Marys for nearly three years and this will be the third student election that I will be involved in.  I see improper and inefficient policies.  Here are some observations

1. Often it is a popularity contest and good candidates are lost within this built-in weakness.  Why can't we run a debate for our top ranking psoitions.  That way, some of our student body can better know the candidates and perhaps through this, we will choose the BEST candidate.
2. Run President and Vice-President candidacies.  Like minded team members will have thought out their strategies and policy suggestions and the administration would hot the year running as oppose to finding its feet for the first few months
